News and Events

  • Mandviwalla, Jain, Weinberg, Fesenmaier, Smith, and Meyers publish Municipal Broadband Wireless Networks: Realizing the Vision of Anytime, Anywhere Connectivity in Communications of the ACM. (February 2008)

  • Mandviwalla, Jain, and Banker recently received a grant from the IBM Center for The Business of Government for their project titled Government as catalyst: Can it work again with wireless internet access? The final report will be available in September 2006. (May 2006).

  • Professor Youngjin Yoo of Case Western University will be joining IBIT as a research fellow in Fall 2006. Professor Yoo is a recognized expert on broadband mobile applications.

  • Mandviwalla and Jain will be co-chairing a research mini-track on Municipal Wireless Networks at the 12th Americas Conference on Information Systems, August 4-6, 2006.

  • Jain and Mandviwalla will be presenting their paper titled Pre-prototype Perceived Usefulness of a Municipal Wireless Network: Sources of Variation among Prospective Users at the 12th Americas Conference on Information Systems, August 4-6, 2006.

  • Jain successfully defended his doctoral dissertation titled When Preconceptions Matter: Understanding Pre-prototype Usefulness of Information Technology, the case of a Municipal Wireless Network, May 9, 2006.

  • Mandviwalla and Jain have co-authored a report for the Cutter Benchmark Report titled Can corporate applications of wireless go beyond simple productivity applications? (forthcoming)

  • Mandviwalla, Jain, Weinberg, Fesenmaier, Smith, and Meyers recently received an acceptance from the Communications of the ACM for their paper titled Municipal Broadband Wireless Networks: Realizing the Vision of Anytime, Anywhere Connectivity. (April 2006).

  • IBIT hosted a Fox IT Symposium moderated by David Kaufman, Senior VP and CIO, Aramark on Leveraging Wireless Networks for Corporate and Consumer Applications. (April 2006).

  • MIS students successfully demonstrated the use of a internally developed real-time wireless survey tool for handheld computers at the Fox IT Awards Reception. (April 2006).

  • Mandviwalla participated as a panelist on Wi-Fi in Philadelphia and the Transformation of Urban Communication and Community at the Eastern Communication Association Convention, on April 28, 2006, Philadelphia, PA. The panel was organized by Professor Susan Jacobson and Dean Concetta Stewart of the Temple School of Communications and Theater.

  • Mandviwalla participated as a panelist on Temple Wireless Day, organized by the School of Communication and Theater (Susan Jacobson).

  • Mandviwalla presented a seminar on Municipal Broadband Wireless Networks: Realizing the Vision of Anytime, Anywhere Connectivity at the Claremont Graduate University, EDGE Seminar Series, September 09, 2005.

  • Jain and Mandviwalla completed their research report titled Broadband Wireless Opportunity and Threat Analysis: The case of 3rd/4th tier communities. (June 2005).

  • Mandviwalla spoke as a panelist on Philly Hot Spot or Just Hot Air? Young Involved Philadelphia (YIP) Civic Education Forum on Wireless Philadelphia, May 18, 2005. Philadelphia, PA.

  • Asif and Mandviwalla published their paper Integrating the supply chain with RFID in the Communications of the Association for Information Systems (CAIS), Vol. 15, No 24, March 2005, 393-427.

  • Fesenmaier, Jain, Mandviwalla, Meyers, Smith, and Weinberg submitted their final report to the City of Philadelphia titled The Wireless Philadelphia Initiative. (December 2004)
